Forestry by-products · Best grades

Origins & Sources

Wood pellets are mainly produced from the by-products of traditional forestry operations — sawmills and finished wood-product manufacturing — with harvest residues used to a much lesser extent. The highest quality comes from milling and manufacturing residues with little or no bark or ash content.

  • Sawmill and wood-manufacturing residues
  • Minimal bark and ash in top grades
  • Size reduction, drying, high-pressure extrusion
  • Small binder additions improve pellet quality

Key properties

Measured to grade.

Diameter & length

Two diameters: 6 mm and 8 mm (± 1 mm). Length above 3.15 mm and at most 40 mm, never exceeding 45 mm — pellets over 40 mm limited to 1% by weight.

Calorific value & moisture

Lab-tested: moisture below 10% with a high calorific value of at least 18.6 MJ/kg (low heating value at least 16.5 MJ/kg).
